Arthur Reed started his photographic business in 1960. Initially centred around the taking of 'candid' and wedding photos, the business soon moved into colour photography, specialising in volume colour processing and then school photos.

The business introduced colour group photographs to schools in Victoria and carried out the first school colour portrait photography, which was done at Geelong High School and Sacred Heart College, Geelong.

School photography became the centre of the business and this was expanded from Geelong to Melbourne and throughout Victoria.

Arthur Reed Photos has progressively grown over the years. Graduation photography has now become a significant part of the business and more recently, facilities and techniques to produce photographs digitally have been installed. The business operates from its own - recently expanded - production laboratory in Grovedale, Geelong, and provides employment for around 50 people, injecting more than $1M a year into the local economy.

The business continues to be family owned, with two generations of 'Reeds' actively involved in management. It has many talented employees, some have worked in the business for between 10 and 20 years - some even longer. Carrying on the tradition of offering innovative products and quality photographs at affordable prices, Arthur Reed Photos continues to be a major part of the School Photo Industry in Victoria, Canberra, and South Australia.
