Our History

From humble beginnings over 55 years ago, Arthur Reed Photos delivers superior excellence in school portraiture photography.

Over 50 years of photography

Arthur Reed discovered his passion for photography early in life. As a keen photographer he joined the school camera club and honed his photographic skills taking pictures of school sporting events and surfers.

Turning the family laundry into a darkroom to process his black and white images, Arthur’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to create photo postcards for a local newsagent and build his school portrait and sports photography business.

This early success gave Arthur Reed Photos a strong foundation in which to successfully focus on the school market.  Arthur believed in innovation and imported new printing technology from Germany in 1965, creating his first purpose-built photographic laboratory.

Arthur Reed Photos proudly produced the first commercial colour photograph here in Geelong for the Shell Oil Co.  Quite an achievement at that time.

Moving into school photography

Providing a professional photography service to the school market was successfully run alongside the photo finishing and processing sector of the business Arthur developed.

In the early 1980’s the business was relocated to its current premises which remains a state-of-the-art production facility and home for all Arthur Reed Photos photographic and printing services today.

Arthur Reed Photos is now proudly a second-generation family owned and operated company with Arthur remaining active in the business until his passing in 2013.

Arthur Reed into the future

Michael and Alison Reed continue the legacy of innovation, developing and advancing the business with new technologies while remaining true to Arthur’s values of “providing value for money packages at affordable prices for families”.
